Poor old Cyril

Poor old Cyril we have been to the vets again.
He developed an ear infection over the weekend in one of his ears so he has been given some drops. We had noticed that he had some grisly lumps in his ears and the vet commented on them and said that they are more than likely from previous ear infections and gone untreated he has persistently shaken his head and has ruptured the blood vessels and developed sort of cauliflower ear for dogs.

His throat problem may be rearing its head again, yesterday he frightened us half to death when he had a retching coughing episode not long after his breakfast, I was almost convinced it was twisted gut again, as with Monty, as he was retching with nothing coming out, by the time he stopped and his tummy didn't swell my knees had turned into my moms special Christmas trifle. He has retched a couple more times this morning and the vet has said just to monitor it.

The other thing we asked about is his limp, he has developed a slight limp, however on Saturday he was out with me all day in a new situation for him and although he wasn't running around he did quite a bit of walking as not to allow me out of his eye shot. After a lie down in the evening he was really stiff and worryingly heavy on his front legs. It turns out his elbows are quite enlarged. The vet said this has developed from years of carrying the excess weight and one of his elbows is really quite stiff. This explains why when he lies down he tends to hit the deck like a bag of spuds! Its because he doesn't want to bend his legs. For now he has given us a preventative solution much like green lipped muscles but most important thing is to keep his weight down.

All you fat feeders out there be warned!!!!
How we are going to stop Johns mom giving him treats I'm not sure, with our German Shepherd we made her promise no biscuits and no chocolate, only we forgot to mention not going to the butchers and buying him pork pies instead!!!And this just isn't allowed...but he's got poorly elbows you know!
