Over Christmas many dogs are abandoned to rescues or the less fortunate end up in the pound. Many in the UK give an owner 7 days to claim the animal, if not, the animal is put to sleep.
There are just a handful of people in the UK that work tirelessly to try and stop this. One of them is the Doris Banham Rescue, this rescue is run completely by volunteers and donations. I highlight this rescue only because they will travel the length and breadth of the country to rescue dogs from death row.
They look for foster homes, spaces in other rescue kennels and even rent space in boarding kennels to ensure these dogs don't get put down.
I could rattle on but if you have a minute visit the site. They obviously need money to keep going but they need other things too like, transport, dog walkers, blankets and food, people to do home checks, foster homes and back up help for the fosterers.
